Ron Bradfield
Ron Bradfield is a lecturer in General and Strategic Management
and the Director of the International MBA Programmes (Asia), at
the Graduate School of Business, University of Strathclyde (Scotland).
He has also held visiting academic positions at institutions in
Poland, Switzerland and Singapore. Prior to his academic career,
Ron qualified as an accountant and spent fifteen years in various
senior management positions in industry, three in the UK with Harper
Collins plc (UK publisher/printer) and twelve years in Canada and
the USA with Cominco Ltd. (Canadian mining/resource) and Nerco Canada
Ltd. (US upstream oil and gas).
After this period in multinational businesses, Ron returned to
University, obtained his MBA at Strathclyde, and stayed on at the
University to develop his teaching and facilitation skills, and
to undertake a PhD in the area of scenario processes. In addition
to academic activities, Ron is an active practitioner in the area
of scenarios and strategy and has lead a number of strategy and
scenario projects with a range of both public and private sector
organisations in diverse industry sectors including Airline Transportation,
Engineering, Pharmaceuticals, Banking, Financial Services, Oil &
Gas, and Tertiary Education. He has also conducted numerous scenario
and strategy workshops in Europe, the USA, and Asia. Ron has been
associated with the Global Business Network (GBN) since 1992 and
is the GBN representative in Asia.
Ron has presented research papers on scenarios at academic conferences
and has been an invited speaker to a number of practitioner conferences,
most recently the Economist CFO Roundtable Conference on the ‘Future
of Asia’, the Washington based International Institute for
Infrastructural Development conference on ‘Asia in the New
Millennium’, the Asia ‘HRD and Organisational Learning
Conference 2000’ and the FIK Public Conference on ‘Strategy
in Uncertain Times’. Ron is a founding member of the ‘Centre
for Scenario Planning & Future Studies’ at Strathclyde
and ‘The Scenario Centre’ in Singapore, and is a professional
member of the World Futures Society and the Strategic Planning Society.
He is also co-author of the book “The Sixth Sense: Accelerating
Organisational Learning with Scenarios”, published by Wiley
in July 2002.
Ron was born in Zimbabwe (Rhodesia), holds a Canadian passport,
has permanent U.K. residential status and is currently resident
in Shanghai, although much of his time is spent traveling within
Asia. Prior to moving to Shanghai at the start of 2002, Ron spent
6 years in Singapore.
