Arden Brummell
Arden Brummell is President of Global Business Network
Canada, a consulting firm specialising in scenario planning and
strategic dialogue. Arden has 25 years experience in strategic management,
corporate development and academic research. His particular focus
is on scenario and planning facilitation to promote organisational
learning and strategic business development.
Arden spent 5 years as a university professor in urban
economic geography before joining Shell Canada in 1981. He was part
of the original scenario development in Shell Canada and later became
head of scenario and strategic studies. Twice he was seconded to
London, England to join Royal/Dutch Shell's Group Planning department
where he was part of the global scenario teams, led studies on the
future of the then Soviet Union, Africa and Latin America, and helped
implement an intensive learning workshop process to help senior
management teams understand and implement strategic decisions.
In 1995 Arden established his own consulting company
Decision Futures Inc. and in 1996 joined Global Business Network
in an alliance to form GBN Canada. Arden has worked with a variety
of large and small companies and government departments helping
them in focusing their strategic priorities and understanding change.
Recent work has included scenario and strategy development projects
with Alberta Energy, National Energy Board, Ashland Chemicals, Rio
Tinto, Alberta Economic Development, Alberta Learning, Correctional
Service of Canada, Valvoline, McGraw-Hill Ryerson, Suncor Energy,
Ralston Purina, Los Angeles Times, Law Society of British Columbia,
RCMP, Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT), Chevrolet
and Canadian Pacific Railway. He is a frequent speaker to groups
on future trends and scenarios Certified Management Accountants
of Alberta, The Conference Board of Canada, Banff Centre for Management,
Strategic Leadership Forum and Energy Futures Education Conference.
Arden has a BA from Queen's University and an MA and
Ph.D. from McMaster University. He is a member of The Strategic
Leadership Forum and the World Future Society, Director and Past
Chair of Volunteer Calgary, Past Chair of Leadership Calgary, Steward
of Calgary Inc's C-Prosperity Project, Chair of the Alliance for
Capitalising on Change and President of Pinebrook Golf and Country
Club.
