Ted Scott
Ted Scott holds degrees in Electrical Engineering
and Economics.
He has had extensive management experience in the Electricity
Industry, being a practicing power station manager for twenty-five
years before CEO of Stanwell Corporation. Ted has managed both thermal
and hydro power station operations achieving a turn around in the
performance of lesser-performing stations as well as managing "greenfield"
sites. He was the start up manager of two of Queensland' s newer
power stations, Callide "B" and Stanwell. With a reputation
for a values based management approach and for innovativeness, Ted
negotiated a landmark industrial agreement at Callide "B"
that enabled that enterprise to be Australia's first multiskilled
power station. At Stanwell Power Station he implemented further
reforms that led to Stanwell having the highest levels of labour
productivity of any Australian power station. This was exemplified
by the fact that Stanwell is run with approximately half the number
of staff of equivalent power stations elsewhere. Stanwell has received
many awards (including one international award) for its productive
work culture and innovative use of technology.
Ted's management career culminated with his term as Chief Executive
Officer of Stanwell Corporation. He led this organisation during
the transition into the competitive electricity market. As CEO of
Stanwell Corporation, Ted achieved consistently high levels of profitability
- always being in the top one or two in Australia. In 1999 Stanwell
was recognised by the Electricity Supply Association of Australia
(ESAA) as the top performing generator in Australia. His management
ability was recognised by the Financial Review's Boss magazine when
he was nominated as one of Australia's top thirty business leaders.
On leaving Stanwell Corporation, Ted became a partner in the Human
Relations and Management Consulting Firm, Human Factor Australia.
Ted is also the co-author of the book 'Humanity at Work' with
Dr Phil Harker. An expanded second edition 'The Myth of Nine to
Five' has recently been published. He has for the last two years
conducted master classes for the Australian Institute of Management
in Queensland and the Northern Territory with Dr Harker.
As a frequent speaker at national and international conferences
over the last fifteen years, Ted has spoken on such topics as Renewable
Energy, Maintenance Management, Change Management, Industrial Relations,
Ethics, The Future of Work, and Vocational Education and Training.
He has also been engaged as a consultant to the electricity industry
in NSW and South Australia.
Some of the other roles that he is currently performing include
Chair of Rockhampton Regional Development Limited, Chair of the
Central Region Committee and Board Member of Commerce Queensland,
Chair of the Institute of Sustainable Regional Development, and
Interim Chair of the Centre for Integrated Engineering Asset Management.
